KEWI-AM radio of Benton is reporting that Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington, who announced his retirement effective Oct. 1 after being convicted of charges relating to drunken conduct and resisting arrest in June, has amended his resignation later to be effective Jan. 1, 2015, the date he would have left office for the term to which he was elected in 2012.
The station, located at 690 on the AM dial, said on its saline247.com website that Pennington delivered the amended letter to Saline County Attorney Jonathan Greer at his residence about 2 p.m. Monday, the Labor Day holiday.
County Judge Lanny Fite has called a special meeting of the Saline County Quorum Court for Tuesday night. He sent copies of the amended letter and of a suggested resolution asking the sheriff to resign, according to KEWI.
