Earlier this week I came across a project by actor-writer Darren E. Burrows, who played jack-of-all-trades, shaman-in-training Ed Chigliak on the 1990-1995 CBS-TV hit, “Northern Exposure,” which I loved.
Burrows is using the crowd-funding website Indiegogo to raise money for a project he’s calling Northern Exposed, which promises a behind-the-scenes story told in book form, as well as a DVD of his return trip to the Washington state locations where the award-winning series was filmed.

Burrows also has information on his fan page on Facebook, too: https://www.facebook.com/BurrowsDarren
I am a big fan of the series, which featured a Jewish doctor from New York banished to a remote village in Alaska to pay off his medical school loans. The “fish out of water” tale of Dr. Joel Fleischman meeting the residents of and becoming a part of Cicely, Alaska, was charming. It began as a summer replacement series and turned into a big hit that made stars of Rob Morrow (Fleischman), Janine Turner (bush pilot Maggie O’Connell), John Corbett (ex-con and radio deejay Chris Stevens and long-time character actor Barry Corbin (retired astronaut-Alaska real estate tycoon Maurice J. Minnifield). The It was five years of brilliance followed by a rather painful emergency landing in Season Six.
If Burrows succeeds in his effort to raise $50,000 to fund his project, maybe we finally will find out what happened to cause the misfire in that final season.
